My father was bald before he was thirty and my mother’s hair thinned at an early age. So I wasn’t surprised when, in my early twenties, my hair began to thin too. I was, however, unprepared for the emotional impact. I found it hard to feel good about my appearance, when every outfit was topped with wispy hair revealing portions of my scalp. Eventually, I began wearing wigs. They did improve my appearance, but they weren’t always comfortable. I wore them in public, but removed them as soon as I returned home.
I’ve always thought of hair extensions as something used by celebrities or younger women, who wished to lengthen their hair, but I recently read about a woman, who had tried hair extensions for her thinning hair. The difference in the before and after pictures was dramatic. A little research revealed that many women use hair extensions as a solution for thinning hair. Interesting post. My hair is receding on one side of my forehead. My mother’s receded on the opposite side. Luckily for me, the rest of my hair is nice and thick. I did, however, go grey before Mom did, because on Dad’s side of the family everyone went grey early.
Hair extensions sound like such a good thing. Lots of wonderful things available that we never would have dreamed of when we were young, right?
