Feeling Good

Miss Muffin is looking forward to an afternoon with friends at a local splash park to celebrate the end of the school year. The weather is perfect and I know that she will have a great time. We didn’t have splash parks, when I was a kid. We did have a garden hose with a spray nozzle and spent many a warm summer day creating our own water park.

Kids seem to know instinctively how to have fun. They don’t have to loosen up at the local pub. They don’t need party enhancers to get them in the mood for a good time. They just enjoy the moment.

Adults could learn from that. Sure, life can be stressful, but it is a rare day that doesn’t offer many opportunities for smelling the roses. Finding and focusing on those moments can keep stress from building and mitigate its damaging effects on health. That seems a far saner approach than letting stress build until the assistance of drugs, alcohol or other substances are needed to unwind. Hmm. Does that include chocolate?
