Ahab cheered his transition from floating wreckage to tiny island, but a steady diet of coconuts was greeted with far less enthusiasm. (132)

When the great white chair washed up, he put aside former animosity, happy to have a companion, although he’d secretly hoped for Wilson. (137)

Chairy suggested a nap by the water’s edge. Ahab snored as the tide rushed in. When it ebbed, only Chairy remained. Smiling. (127)

Excellent, atmospheric micros. The last was definitely the best.

  2. Anders Says:

I especially liked the first one. Nice. (。◕‿◕。)

Nice ones, GMa ~~ :) ~~ I’d like to comment on them a bit.

1st one reminds me that he might try praying for mana.

2nd one, I’m glad he didn’t get Wilson. There was cussing on that video

3rd one I liked best. I’m not sure if Chairy was smiling because she gained from the relationship or if Ahab turned out to be a scoundrel? Those are the two options that came to mind, you can square me away as to what you were thinking. :)

    Good thoughts, Jim.

I’m not a big fan of cussing, but if I got stranded on a deserted island, I would probably indulge in a bit of it.

You probably guessed from the title, that Moby Dick was the inspiration for my tale. As you may remember, Captain Ahab sought revenge on the great white whale, who destroyed his boat and bit his leg off. In my version, Ahab sets aside his resentment in favor of companionship, but apparently Chairy does not.

Grandma, your trilogy is brilliant. I cracked up at the last one, especially at “When it ebbed, only Chairy remained. Smiling.” I also like the melding of Moby Dick and Castaway. I think Wilson would be a fine companion for anyone alone on an island.

  6. Judy Says:

Most of us would put up with considerably more than normal if there was no one else to be with.

    I liked them all!

Three good ones here, for sure. I did manage to write ONE, but some day I might get to three. LOL
Love the song Ebb Tide, although this doesn’t look like the Bobby Hatfield I remember so fondly. I saw him when he and Bill Medley had split up for a while, and he was singing with someone else. I asked his new partner (Jimmy something, I forget his last name) if they’d do Ebb Tide but he said it would be too hard on Bobby’s voice.
    Sigh.
    Thanks for including it here.

Chairy! That cracked me up. So cute, yet so secretly evil. Love the trilogy as the perfect introduction to Succinctly Yours. Thanks for the laugh :)
