Lighten Up

‘Tis not the season for dieting. Everyone knows that dieting is over a month and many holiday indulgences away.

I must confess that approach to weight loss has never made a lot of sense to me. With estimates of holiday gains starting at five pounds and spiraling up to ten, twenty or more, planning to diet after the holidays is a fine way to sabotage your weight loss plan before you’ve even started. Estate Planning

In his seventies, my father read one of those live-rich-die-poor books. My parents weren’t rich and their home was their only valuable asset. When they sold it and came to live with us, they planned to use what they needed from the proceeds and save the rest as an inheritance for their children. They added my name to their bank accounts as a joint owner, trusting that I would follow their wishes to split the money with my siblings.

Summer Dreams

One of my cousins is already making her summer vacation plans. That’s incredibly optimistic, I think. She lives far north of us and has many snow laden weeks ahead before she even gets a glimpse of sun and surf. She is undoubtedly more organized than I am. Our current plans involve recuperating from bad colds and finishing the Christmas decorations.

Next summer? Who knows? We have discussed the possibility of a summer camp for Miss Muffin, but don’t have anything specific in mind. Read more »
