Easy As Pie

This post brought to you by Mrs. Smith’s. All opinions are 100% mine.

Many people have cakes to celebrate their birthdays.  Not me.  I always ask Calico to bake an apple pie.  I felt a bit guilty about that last year.  With a part-time job, a hefty, full-time college schedule and a home-schooled child, I sometimes wonder when she finds time to breathe.   Thoughts of a thick warm filling of spicy apples and a tender flaky crust helped me work through my guilt and ask anyway.  This year, I've found a way to give her a break and still have a mouthwatering piece of pie. My solution?  Read on.

Check out Mrs. Smith's Signature Deep Dish pies.  I've got my eye on the Deep Dish Dutch Apple.  I'd be happy with Mrs. Smith's flaky butter crust and that thick apple filling, but it gets even better.  A brown sugar streusel tops this classic.  What more could you ask for?  I couldn't think of anything, but Mrs. Smith's did.  There's a yummy caramel sauce that you can drizzle over the baked pie or serve on the side. I think it would be fun to serve the pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzle the caramel sauce over it. Since the streusel and sauce come in separate packets, you can choose how to customize your pie.   I don't think I can wait for my birthday to try it and this pie is so easy to make that I don't have to.

Pumpkin pie is a holiday favorite for many families, but Mrs. Smith's Deep Dish Pumpkin Pie is easy enough to make all year long.  Just put it in the oven and wait for that spicy pumpkin aroma to fill the house.  Once your pie has baked and cooled, you can drizzle a bit of the cream cheese icing packet onto a slice for a decorative and tasty touch.  My granddaughter is a fan of whipped cream and I bet this pie would taste great with a dab of spiced topping.

Mrs. Smith's also make a Signature Deep Dish Peach Pie with Cream Cheese Icing,  What a nice addition to a traditional Southern favorite.  I think we'll serve the Signature Deep Dish Cherry Pie with Butter Fudge Sauce for Washington's Birthday. This sounds like the perfect marriage of cherry chocolates and pie.  I bet Washington would have approved!
