Clip of Idols seeing bits of Super 8 and receiving cameras to film their hometown visits.
Haley’s homecoming is first. For a minute, it appears that nobody is there to see her. An empty plane is followed by empty streets. Finally she is surrounded by a cheering crowd. With all the Haley bashing, it has me worried.

I don’t even like writing “the top three”. The top performer went home last week and Grandma hasn’t forgotten. Still, the show has gone on after a short soundless clip of James at his homecoming. So let’s see what’s happening. Each contestant will sing three songs this week. One is their choice, one is picked by Jimmy Iovine and the third by the judges. Their choice is first and Beyonce will be their mentor.

Recap of last night, including the Haley bashings. Scotty and James sing Start A Band. It was cute and more fun than most of the group numbers. I wish I could say the same for Gunpowder and Lead, Lauren and Haley’s duo. Not terrible, but seeing the two together really highlights the skills that Haley possesses and Lauren lacks. After last night’s Trouble, you’d think they’d steer clear of songs where Lauren should act tough.

For tonight’s first round, the Idols are singing songs that inspire them.
James is first singing Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’. He is hot. So is his vocal. Okay, Grandma will remember her age and dignity(?). The judges raved, including Steven, whose rave was bleeped a couple times. James felt he wasn’t at his top last week and said he’d resolved to do better this week. Last week needed no apologies, but this was awesome.

Happy Together is tonight’s group number. While it’s their best job of blending as a group, it wasn’t all that happy. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a song held off key for quite so long. Calico comments that it is a good thing they don’t have to earn their living as a group. My kid certainly has a point.
Clip of Gordon Ramsey judging the Idols on omelet creation. Lauren wins with Jacob in second place. Hopefully, its not an omen for this season. Have to wonder if its an attempt to clean up Ramsey’s reputation with the AI crowd. Funniest part? Ramsay cautions Haley to watch her language.
